Diocesan Campus Ministry carries out the mission of the Church at various Catholic and secular colleges and universities in our six-county diocese.

The office serves students, faculty, administration and staff of these universities/colleges and their families, while extending beyond the limits of the campus to incorporate those who wish to share in this apostolate. Campus ministry serves these communities through providing opportunities for worship, service, spiritual formation and education.

Currently this apostolate exists at Walsh University in Canton (the only Catholic university in the diocese), and through Campus Ministry Centers at Youngstown State University, Kent State University, Stark Technical College/Stark Branch of Kent State University, Hiram College, Mount Union College, and the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Rootstown.

Hiram College has a Newman Club advised by Fr. Leo Wherlin. St Ambrose Parish in Garrettsville offers transportation for its weekend liturgies to Hiram College students. Contact Fr. Leo Wherlin at 330-527-4105.

Kent State University campus ministry revolves around Immaculate Heart of Mary University Parish and Newman Center located adjacent to the KSU campus. Fr. Chris Luoni serves as pastor and coordinator of a Campus Ministry Team including Mrs. Carmen Roebke, John Roebke, and Mark Bartholet. The University Parish Newman Center offers many opportunities for students, staff, and faculty to become involved in the wide variety of activities and ministries. The weekend Mass schedule includes Saturday 5:30 p.m., Sunday 9 and 11 a.m., and Sunday 8 p.m. (when KSU is in session). Contact Fr. Chris Luoni or Carmen Roebke at 330-678-0240 or see www.kent.edu/newman.

Mount Union College lies within the parish community of Regina Coeli in Alliance. Fr. Michael Seifert serves as pastor and as coordinator of campus ministry to the college. Through the parish, many activities and ministry opportunities exist for students willing to become involved. Contact Fr. Michael Seifert at 330-821-5880.

Stark State College of Technology/Kent State Stark Campus includes Interfaith Campus ministry as an integral component of its outreach to students, staff, and faculty. Campus Minister Michael Gleason coordinates campus ministry through his office in the Student Center. Contact Michael at 330-244-3282.

Walsh University offers a wide variety of campus ministry opportunities and experiences through its Office of Campus Ministry directed by Miguel Chavez. Contact him at 330-490-7343.

Youngstown State University benefits from the wide variety of campus ministry activities coordinated from the Newman Center adjacent to the north side of campus. Under the direction of Mr. Thomas Bagola, ministry revolves around the areas of worship, service, spirituality, and connecting to the larger campus community. The Newman Student Association sponsors retreats, panel discussions, social opportunities and other activities. Mass is celebrated at the Newman Center on Sundays at 6 p.m. during the fall, winter, and spring quarters, as well as on Ash Wednesday and holy days at noon on campus. Contact Thomas Bagola at 330-747-9202 or see www.ysu.edu./newmancenter.

Students interested in learning more about growing in their Catholic faith at any university or college should contact Fr. Chris Luoni at 330-678-0240 or frchris@neo.rr.com.
