Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry - Diocesan Youth Congress

Diocesan Youth Congress

Tuesday, June 27, 2006
Approximately 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
St. Joan of Arc Parish, Canton

R-U Going in the Right Direction?
Do U-C The Signs Along The Way?

What is the Diocesan Youth Congress?
This is a day to gather with teens from the Diocese of Youngstown's 6 counties to discuss and learn more about a topic. Past topics have included Mary, Life Issues, the Environment, The Eucharist and Scripture.

This year, we will discuss how the choices we make every day effect our lives and our futures, and how the "instant messages" we receive from society may shape our decisions. We will also talk about signs along the way that help direct us to good decisions.

What goes on at the Diocesan Youth Congress? There will be a few short talks given by diocesan leaders, as well as table discussions and fun activities. There will be opportunities for each person to ask questions and share stories. We will also pray and celebrate Mass. Oh, and we didn't forget about food
- there will be morning refreshments and lunch included!

Who goes to the Diocesan Youth Congress?
YOU, if you are a teen that will be in high school during the 2006-07 year, and if you want to learn more about our faith and want to meet dozens of other teens from all over the Diocese.
Also, one adult per each six teens will come to assist with the day.

Where will this all take place?
St. Joan of Arc Parish, 4940 Tuscarawas W, Canton OH 44708. We will begin in the Church.

How Do I sign up? Between now and mid-May, contact your parish youth minister or your high school campus minister for registration forms and further details.

What does this cost?
We try to make this an affordable day, but do need to purchase the food and supplies, so we ask you to contribute $15.

What do I need to bring with me?
A pen or pencil, an open mind and a prayerful heart! We will provide the program supplies, as well as breakfast and lunch!

How should I dress for the Congress?
This is a casual, summer day. However, we will be going to Mass, so please be sure to wear shirts that cover up your torso and have sleeves. Also, jeans, capris or pants should cover up all necessary body parts. No shorts. Dressing with respect will help show reverence for our Lord and our fellow participants!

Can I bring a friend?
All Catholic high school aged teens are invited - so feel free to encourage a friend to sign up with your parish or school group! There will be some activities in which you will not be sitting next to your friend, but at other times you will be able to share the experiences and discussions!
This is a great opportunity to make new friends, as well!

Where can I call if I have more questions?
After checking with your parish or school coordinator, feel free to contact
